Enabling Healthier, Happier Lives

Our Adult Social Care Strategy for 2024-27

Our Vision: Adult Social Care in St Helens Borough, developed together with service users, their loved ones, and local residents, is to live healthier, happier lives.

Core purpose: To provide the care and support people need, in the place they call home, delivered by a skilled and compassionate workforce. This includes supporting carers and working with partners and communities to ensure safe, high-quality, person-centred services, while putting what matters to people first

The demand for Adult Social Care services is growing and many people are needing more complex care and support.

This strategy looks at the current demand for services and aims to help individuals live life on their own terms, building on the existing work taking place across Adult Social Care and supporting upcoming transformation programmes as part of a place-based support model.

A wide range of engagement has taken place through consultation with service users, their loved ones, their carers, and local residents to help shape this strategy.

Achieving the vision is a shared challenge and we will continue working with partners, people with lived experience, and their loved ones to best meet people's needs.

Our commitments and principles

Our strategy is built on insights from our engagement and highlights the need for:

  • a flexible, person-centred approach
  • active listening to make 'nothing about us, without us' a reality
  • opportunities for social engagement for those unable to easily leave home
  • increased support for carers
  • a localised place-based approach to the support we provide.

We are committed to:

  • Building strong, reliable, and lasting relationships with you
  • Working together to empower you to make your own decisions about your care
  • Co-producing together, your assessments and care plans so you are in control
  • Ensuring information is easier for you to access and understand
  • Continuing to be creative and ambitious in supporting your needs
  • Making every day experiences feel fair and right for you
  • Maintaining a consistency of practice so your experience always remains the same
  • Using our knowledge to build on your strengths and provide care locally
  • Helping you find alternative solutions, create balance in your life and forge community connections.
