Newton-le-Willows East and West Town Council proposal

Following the receipt of a valid petition, St Helens Borough Council is carrying out a Community Governance Review to decide if a new town council should be created to represent the Newton-le-Willows East and West wards.

Update - August 2023

Following the results of the Newton-le-Willows East and West postal ballot and consultation exercise, at its meeting on 19 April 2023 Council approved the draft recommendation proposed by Community Governance Review Cross-Party Working Group as follows:

Having taken account of the result of the postal ballot of registered electors and the outcome of the first-stage consultation, not to proceed with the petition proposal to create a new Town Council for Newton-le-Willows East and West

The full report presented to council can be viewed here - Agenda Reports Pack

The draft recommendation adopted by the Council then formed the basis for a second stage consultation period between 21 April and 14 July 2023 inclusive. This process is in accordance with the agreed Terms of Reference and LGBCE guidance.

The comments we have received during the second consultation will be reviewed by the Cross Party Working Group.  Final Recommendations will then be presented to Council on 15 November 2023.
