Get ready for an unforgettable day of family fun at Carnival of Creativity this summer

Organised by St Helens Borough Council as part of its Arts in Libraries offer, the family-friendly Carnival of Creativity will bring together performers, activities and treats for the ambitious, imaginative festival which will take place in different venues across the town centre.

Headline acts for the day will be found in The World of Glass Museum and St Helens Library - where one of St Helens' most famous sons, Johnny Vegas, will take part in Desert Island Books to discuss his favourite reads in front of a live audience.

Other must-see acts include rising star musician and storyteller, Marco Woolf; poet, performer and national book hero, Paul Cookson - while a pop-up cinema, children's activities, family cabaret and much more besides, are also sure to be a hit with visitors.

Over in nearby St Mary's Market, a Makers Market featuring a range of artisan craft stalls and creative activities from local makers will complement the monthly pop-up market in Church Square - with the event finishing on a high at St Helens Town Hall which will stage a music gig, headlined by electric pop band Stealing Sheep, who opened the Eurovision Village stage in Liverpool last year, and alternative/indie act TVAM, with main man, Joe Oxley, having a special connection to St Helens Library Service.

Encouraging residents to attend, Councillor Kate Groucutt, St Helens Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Business, Leisure and Culture, said: "Carnival of Creativity promises to be an unforgettable day of excitement and creativity in St Helens town centre, and I'd like to thank staff in our arts and library services for their vision and scale of ambition in making this possible.

"Our borough has a rich history when it comes to culture which should rightly be recognised at every chance, with Carnival of Creativity being this year's big opportunity to celebrate the artistic talent we have living and visiting here and I'm very much looking forward to it."

Carnival of Creativity will take place on Saturday 31 August, with daytime activities in St Helens Library, The World of Glass and St Mary's Market between 10am-5pm, and the evening St Helens Town Hall gig scheduled for 7:00pm-10:30pm.

The event has been funded by Arts Council England as part of St Helens Borough Council Library Service's status as a National Portfolio Organisation (NPO).
