Article date: 20 June 2025

The works form part of the Council's approved 2025/26 Highway Maintenance Programme, designed to improve road safety and surface conditions.

The first two weeks of the resurfacing programme are confirmed with contractors, with further dates to be announced into mid-August, subject to change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.

Among the key initial works is Clock Face Road, where resurfacing will begin on Thursday 26 June, lasting for approximately four days. Temporary traffic signals and road closures will be required to carry out the works safely and efficiently.

Details of Clock Face Road works:

  • Thursday 26 and Friday 27 June: Temporary traffic signals in place

  • Saturday 28 June: Full road closure between Leach Lane and Gartons Lane

  • Sunday 29 June: Full road closure between Leach Lane and Field Road

  • Working hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm

Meanwhile from Monday 23rd June to Friday 27 June, a full road closure will be in place from 8am to 5pm affecting Farndon Avenue, Kelsall Avenue and Chester Lane.

Following this, Mill Lane in Bold Heath will undergo full resurfacing from Monday 30 June to Friday 4 July, requiring a full road closure throughout.

All local businesses will remain open as usual, and access will be maintained wherever possible.

Residents are asked to keep roads clear of parked vehicles during these hours.

Councillor Kate Groucutt, St Helens Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Business and Inclusive Growth, said:

"We do appreciate that roadworks can be disruptive, and we thank residents and road users for their patience and cooperation. These improvements are essential to maintaining safe and reliable roads in our borough. We'll do everything we can to minimise inconvenience and complete the works as efficiently as possible."

The council encourages residents to follow local signage and diversion routes during the works and thanks the community in advance for their understanding.
