Street collections
If you would like to collect money or sell items for charity, either on a street or in a public place, you will need a permit.
Street collections throughout the borough are normally licensed for Saturdays, but this can be varied upon request.
This will not affect any application made for a collection solely along the route of a sponsored walk, or similar event, as it passes through the borough.
How to apply
To apply for a street collection permit, you will need to complete the application form (PDF) [255KB] (opens new window) and return it to us by email.
There is no fee for this licence and licences are not transferable.
Restrictions
The council is empowered to, and does, limit the number of street collections in its area because it is conscious of the threat of 'overkill'.
Our policy in dealing with such applications is to give priority to local charities, or national charities with local branches, where funds are to be used locally to help disabled or disadvantaged people.
Due to demand, collections are normally limited to one per charity collection per year.
