Polling District Review

Interim Polling District, Polling Places and Polling Stations Review 2025

A interim review of our polling districts, polling places and stations started on 17 July 2025 and finished on 26 November 2025.

The review is being undertaken as a result of the outcome of the Community Governance Review 2024 in preparation for the elections taking place in May 2026.

Notice of Conclusion

At full council on 26 November 2025 the final report and recommendations as a result of the review were adopted. The notice of conclusion and supporting documents for the review are listed below. They are also available to inspect at the Town Hall, Victoria Square, St Helens, Merseyside, WA10 1HP.

Definition of terms

Parliamentary Constituency

The area designated by the Boundary Commission which is represented by a Member of Parliament (MP) in the House of Commons. This cannot be changed by the review

Wards

The St Helens Borough is divided into 18 electoral areas known as Wards which are represented by Borough Councillors. Ward boundaries cannot be changed by this review.

Polling Districts

A polling district is geographical area which separates the ward into smaller parts. A polling place is then allocated in each district.

Polling Places

A polling place is the building or area in which the polling stations will be selected by the Returning Officer.

Polling Station

A polling station is the room or area in which the voting takes place.
