Condolences from the Mayor and Leader

Following the sad announcement of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Mayor of St Helens Borough, Cllr Sue Murphy, said:

"On behalf of St Helens Borough, I would like to express condolences to the Royal Family on the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

"The Queen last visited St Helens Town Hall in 1977 as part of the Silver Jubilee Celebrations. As a mark of respect, we are flying the Union Flag at half-mast above St Helens Town Hall."

St Helens Borough Council Leader Councillor David Baines said: "The thoughts and prayers of everyone in St Helens Borough are with the Royal Family at this tragic time for them, and for us all.

"Throughout her entire life, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth provided leadership which defined post-war Britain. Through her outstanding and selfless public service she gave us stability and strength, and was our one constant during an age which saw significant change in almost every other part of our lives.

"In the coming days and weeks we will mourn, and we will reflect on her remarkable life with awe and gratitude. May she rest in peace."
