Young singers and musicians wow crowds in musical festival as part of Borough of Culture
Primary and secondary school pupils certainly hit all the right notes as they performed in front of packed audiences over four nights at St Helens Town Hall as part of a Borough of Culture event.
Accompanied by St Helens Youth Session Orchestra, which brings together young musicians from across the borough, a total of 530 students from more than 20 different schools took to the stage to form part of Lost in Music 3: Musicals and Movies - organised by St Helens Borough Council's Music Service.
Featuring hits from a number of popular films and musicals including Toy Story, The Lion King, Wicked, The Sound of Music and Phantom of the Opera, the shows featured a massed school choir made up of both secondary and primary schools as well as fantastic young soloists who - with support from St Helens Sinfonietta - performed in front of hundreds of people, with Mayor of St Helens Borough Council, Sue Murphy, and Council Leader, David Baines, among those in attendance.
Commenting on being part of such a big event during a special year for St Helens Borough, Rachael Brookes, headteacher of St Teresa's Catholic Primary School, said: "Lost in Music was a fantastic showcase of the musical talent in St Helens and a true inspiration for pupils wanting to continue their love of music. We are very proud of all our young people who delivered an amazing performance."
Hailing the event a success, St Helens Borough Council Leader, David Baines, said: "It was a pleasure to attend such a spectacular event involving so many talented young musicians from our local schools. This is what Borough of Culture is all about - celebrating our amazing talent, and where better to host it than St Helens Town Hall which is steeped in local history and heritage.
"My thanks go to our terrific St Helens Music Service and all the school staff, parents and carers who together work so hard to nurture and develop such talent. Above all else, I want to thank the children and young people for putting on such a terrific show - and it's just one of many brilliant events taking place across St Helens from now until the end of the year."
