Bulky Waste Service Update
St Helens Borough Councils Bulky Waste Collection Service update - July 2024. Following the publication of new Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) Regulations published by the Environment Agency.
To approve change to Household Bulky Waste Collection Service from the 1st October 2024 to enable the Council to comply with new guidance by the Environment Agency and allow the Council to recover additional cost caused by changes by having to collect POP’s items separately.
The Environment Agency has recently published new guidance on the disposal of items that contain Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) – January 2024. These are poisonous chemicals that break down slowly and can get in the food chain and are now banned. However, these chemicals were widely used in the manufacturing of sofas and seating in the UK and pose a risk when being disposed. The new guidance require these items to be collected separately from other bulky waste items.
