Emergency Department Team

Together we will deliver the right care, in the right place, at the right time. Every time.

St Helens Council, the NHS and the CCG are working together in partnership to be proactive and to strengthen the help provided to people attending the Accident and Emergency department.

We are a team of social workers and assessment and review workers working within the A&E department at Whiston Hospital.

How do we get involved?

You will be referred to us by one of the health professionals working within the Accident & Emergency department.
Should you require admission to hospital and support with your discharge, this will be provided by the Contact Cares, on-site Integrated Discharge Team.

What will we do?

  • support people who do not require an admission to hospital for medical reasons
  • signpost to appropriate support in the community
  • support to more appropriate community based placements 

Our opening times are:

  • Monday to Sunday - 8.00am to 10.00pm
