More than 97 percent of parents and carers receive first choice of secondary school for September 2025
Figures released by St Helens Borough Council's school admissions team this week show that 99.5 percent of parents and carers have been successful in securing one of their preferred secondary schools for their child this September.

The data shows a positive picture, with just over 97 percent of applicants awarded their first-choice preference; 2.07 per cent were given their second choice, while 0.40 per cent were allocated their third choice.
Welcoming the data, which is forecast to above the national average for England, St Helens Borough Council's Director of Adults and Children Services, Jamaila Hussain, said: "Our school admissions team has an exceptional track record of ensuring parents and carers are allocated one of their preferred school preferences, and I'm delighted that this is the case once again for the upcoming academic year.
"I would like to say a big thank you to the team for their extremely hard work over the past few weeks to get the allocation done by the deadline, ensuring we as an education authority meet our statutory duty of providing children and young people with a school place."
