Section 106 contributions are designed to mitigate the impact of new developments on local services and infrastructure.

The funding, totalling £603,733, has been agreed by Wain Homes who, on appeal, have been granted planning permission by the Government's Planning Inspectorate to build 92 dwellings on land west of Mill Lane, Newton-le-Willows - 30 per cent of which will be classed as affordable homes - with financial contributions towards early years, secondary school, post 16 and SEND provision in the area - along with off-site highway improvements, including upgrades to existing bus stops.

Lisa Harris, St Helens Borough Council's Executive Director for Place Services, said:

"We are pleased to have secured these Section 106 developer contributions which are crucial in supporting the local community to ensure that education, affordable housing provisions and highway infrastructure are in place as we continue to grow our borough.

"The council's planning service has worked hard to secure a good, quality development and these contributions demonstrate our commitment to balancing the need for development with the responsibility to invest in local communities."
