Have Your Say: Consultation launched for proposed active travel route improvements on Jubits Lane and Chester Lane

St Helens Borough Council is calling on residents, businesses, and local organisations to have their say on plans for a new active travel route on Jubits Lane and Chester Lane.

Jubits Lane/Chester Lane consultation

Article date: 30 May 2025

Identified as a key corridor in the St Helens Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans, the route has huge potential to connect communities and amenities in the south of our borough as well as providing a cross-boundary network stretching south into Halton towards Widnes Railway Station.

This corridor was selected for its strategic importance and its potential to support new and growing communities, with housing developments such as Gartons Lane and Ibstock Brickworks just around the corner, meaning - if approved - residents will step into a neighbourhood built for active, sustainable travel from day one.

What's Planned?

  • A fully protected cycle track running the length of the corridor

  •  Safer crossings for people walking, cycling and wheeling at key junctions

  • Improved links to schools, shops, and local parks

The scheme would complement several recent infrastructure upgrades in the area, designed to give people walking, cycling and wheeling safer, more attractive travel options.

Councillor Kate Groucutt, Joint Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Business and Inclusive Growth, said:

"We're passionate about making walking, cycling and wheeling the go-to choices for short journeys — whether that's commuting, the school run, or popping to the shops. But great routes only work when they're seamless and safe from end to end.

"This consultation is your chance to shape how this route works for you, your family, and your community. We want to hear from everyone — so don't miss your chance to have a say."
