Article date: June 18 2025
The council's Cabinet heard of a long list of achievements against all six areas covered in the borough strategy, designed to develop and support residents and businesses across the borough.
Councillor Burns said: "I've always been proud of our borough and the amazing things that happen here every day, and this report is just a snapshot of the wonderful things that have happened over the last year, not just for us as a council but for the whole community through partnership working with you, for you, to make a difference.
"This report is a welcome opportunity for us to bring together all of those successes, the progress we've made and how all of this will put us in a strong position to build a brighter future for St Helens Borough."
The report highlighted many of the council's successes including a Local Government Association Corporate Peer Challenge which said the council had been transformed in the last five year for the better, a Good rating for our Adult Social Care services and an INetwork Award win for our tech-enabled care programme among other successes.
Last year there was delivery on projects like family hubs, tech-enabled care, delivering new homes, the regeneration of St Helens town centre and Earlestown moving forward, opening of improved 5g sports fields and much more.
Councillor Burns added: "There is a clear message from this report, backed up by the many independent validations of the good work happening here, that the council is an effectively managed organisation that is digitally forward thinking and building for the future. As a council leader I also want to put on record Cabinet's thanks to the council officers who are delivering services we know our residents really rely on.
"We've so much to be proud about and say we #LoveStHelens and this Borough Strategy Annual Report shows how we as a council are delivering for residents and build on the strong foundations we have to build for the future."
