Renewing Our Commitment to End Violence Against Women and Girls

White Ribbon Campaign & 16 Days of Action (25 November - 10 December)

St Helens Borough Council is proud to have renewed its commitment to the White Ribbon Campaign by becoming a White Ribbon Accredited Authority.

This means we're stepping up our work to end violence against women and girls (VAWG) — promoting equality, respect, and safe communities across our borough. While we've always been committed to this cause, our accreditation strengthens that promise and puts us at the heart of a national and global movement for change.

What is White Ribbon Day?

White Ribbon Day is a national observance, marked annually on the 25th November. It is also known as The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls. The 16 Days of Action end on World Human Rights Day (10 December) — a powerful reminder that freedom from violence is a fundamental human right.

Violence against women and girls is never acceptable. By standing together, taking the pledge, and promoting respect and equality, we can build a community where everyone feels safe and valued.

What We're Doing During the 16 Days of Action

From White Ribbon Day on 25 November to Human Rights Day on 10 December, we'll be shining a light on the actions, partnerships, and events that help tackle violence against women and girls.

To serve as a reminder of the importance of addressing gender-based violence and promoting gender equality, the Steve Prescott Bridge will shine white on the evening of Tuesday 25th November. Cabinet Members and the Community Safety Partnership Board will also sign the White Ribbon Pledge — making a commitment to never use, excuse, or remain silent about male violence against women and girls.
