FAQs
How is the project being funded?
Work on this historic building has been made possible through a variety of funding streams that the project team at St Helens Borough Council have secured or applied for. This includes the St Helens Council Capital Programme, the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, Town Deal Funding, and £2million from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority for regeneration initiatives.
What is the timeline for the works?
We are now in Phase 4 of the works. Designs are being finalised and detailed costs and delivery programme are being developed, informed by the forthcoming enabling works.
The proposals will be subject to a planning application submission and main works will begin subject to planning approval and contractor procurement.
Works completion is currently envisaged in Spring 2028, recognising that timeframes may alter depending on construction progress.
Why are you adding an extension?
As it stands, the Gamble Building is not accessible to many of our residents. Its historic design is architecturally stunning but it does not comply with modern standards including the Equality Act 2010 and the need to ensure that a broad range of people are able to access and use facilities within the Gamble Building.
By adding an extension to the rear of the Gamble Building, a façade that was originally hidden by terraced housing, we can protect the much-loved frontage while providing step free, street level access. The location of the extension also directly links the Gamble Building to the new St Helens Transport Interchange, providing a welcoming entrance linking directly to the newly created Gamble Plaza and the wider Phase 1 town centre regeneration area.
