Transferring a premises licence

If you either sell your business or buy a business that has a premises licence, you will need to apply to transfer the licence into the name of the new licence holder.

You must also have gained consent from the current licence holder in order to transfer the licence. In most cases the transfer of a premises licence can only be done with the consent of the current licence holder, but there are some exceptions where consent may not be required at all. This would apply if the applicant is able to prove that they have:

• Taken all reasonable steps to obtain consent from the current licence holder; or
• The applicant wants the transfer to take immediate effect.
