Majority of St Helens pupils allocated one of their parents' preferred secondary schools for September 2022
Figures released from St Helens Borough Council's School Admissions Team show that more than 97 per cent of parents have been successful in securing one of their preferred secondary schools for their child for September 2022.
Article date: 1 March 2022
A total of 90.84 percent of applicants were given their first-choice preference; 4.82 percent were allocated their second, while 1.70 per cent were given their third choice - with the local authority receiving 2117 applications compared to 2073 the previous year.
Welcoming the figures, St Helens Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Business, Councillor Kate Groucutt, said: "Every year we work closely with our secondary schools to ensure that parents and carers are allocated one of their preferences, and I'm delighted to see that this is the case for September 2022.
"This past couple of years have been extremely difficult for our children and young people, with many of them missing out on months of face-to-face teaching, so it great to see them back consistently again in the classroom, the best type of learning environment.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful teachers across the borough, with whom we have a shared commitment of ensuring every young person has the best possible start in life, for their exceptionally hard work during such challenging times.
"If any parent or guardian has questions about their application, I would ask them to contact the School Admissions Team by calling 01744 671033, 671027, 671034 - or email schooladmissions@sthelens.gov.uk."
