Discover your potential in 2023 with an Adult and Community Learning course

The start of a new year is always the perfect time to take on a new challenge or learn a new skill - so why not take the first step with St Helens Borough Council's Adult Community Learning (ACL) service?

With a range of different free programmes designed for those looking to change their career, become more digital savvy, improve mental health and wellbeing, or volunteer - courses include maths and English; using iPads, tablets and apps; Caring for Children; volunteer training and photography for wellbeing. 

Informal events will be held next week where ACL staff will be available to chat to anyone wanting to find out more.     

One current learner, Alison Parry, decided on a career change after 23-years as a dental nurse.    

Alison, who had been out of work for five years to look after her children, said: "I had always wanted to be a teaching assistant and I got in touch with ACL through my children's school.     

"The thought of going back to learning was very daunting but the team have been amazing - so helpful and friendly. They got me started on all the courses which I really enjoyed. I couldn't ask for better support."    

Councillor Kate Groucutt, St Helens Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Economy, Business and Skills, said:    

"Our ACL service has helped many people achieve things they didn't think were possible over the years - from older people becoming more confident with technology; people overcoming stress and anxiety - to residents settling in our borough from other countries learning the English language.    

"At the start of a new year, now is the perfect time to discover a new you - and our fantastic staff will guide you every step of the way."    

Open days will be held at United Reformed Church, King Street, St Helens , WA10 2JZ on Tuesday 10 January and Park Road Centre, Park Road, WA9 1HE, on Wednesday 11 January - with both events running from 1:00pm-3:00pm.
