Purchase of Microsoft Surface Laptops (device refresh programme)
Purchase of Microsoft Surface Laptops to replace the Council's oldest devices that are now end of life.
To recommend a device refresh programme to replace the Council's oldest tablets and laptops with new equipment.
The Council are embarking on their next device refresh programme replacing approximately 1400 devices over the next 18 months. This decision covers the first 600 of those 1400. Further delegated executive decisions will be submitted for the next sets of equipment until we reach the 1400 total. These devices are now reaching 5 years old and are at the end of their life. We are seeing an increasing number of hardware failures, poor performance and a significant degradation in battery life. In order for Council Officers to perform their daily duties and responsibilities, they must be provided with IT equipment that is fit for purpose. Replacing devices with newer equipment also ensures that we maintain the Council's security posture allowing the operating system and other software to be upgraded, supported and patched.
To recommend that the Council's oldest devices are replaced with new equipment ensuring officers can continue to perform their daily duties.
