Council Tax Energy Rebate and Discretionary Scheme
To approve the Council Tax Energy Rebate and discretionary scheme v1.0
The scheme sets out the qualifying criteria for a discretionary energy rebate scheme. It will provide support to: - Persons whose sole or main residence are in Council Tax band E and are in receipt of one more awards / criteria detailed in paragraph 12 of the scheme. - Persons who are directly responsible for energy costs but are not liable for Council Tax, e.g. houses in multiple occupation or where the landlord is liable for Council Tax. -Applicants who would have qualified under the main scheme, following a successful appeal to the Valuation Office Agency, made prior to 4 February 2022. - Applicants who become liable for payment of Council Tax on or after 2 April 2022 who are resident in bands A to D, where for example they are a first-time buyer or have moved into the area after fleeing domestic abuse.
The government has provided funding to adsminister a discretionary scheme.
The government has provided £447,600 of discretionary funding to residents living within the borough who are responsible for paying their own energy costs and who are ineligible to receive the main energy rebate.
Additional support to households with increased energy cost.
Discretionary funding - over / underspend
Funding needs to spent by 30 November 2022. Should any discretionary funding remain available between 1 August 2022 and 30 October 2022, consideration will be made to provide additional funding to low-income households who have qualified under the main or discretionary schemes.
