Determination of School Admission Arrangements 2025-2026 (inc. 7-year full consultation)
Pupil Admission Arrangements for 2025/2026
To determine the Local Authority’s pupil admission arrangements for Community and Voluntary Controlled schools for the academic year 2025/2026, and to report on the 7-year full consultation on all admission schemes.
The Local Authority is the Admission Authority for Community and Voluntary Controlled schools and therefore is responsible for consulting upon and determining admission arrangements for those schools. In the case of Voluntary Aided schools and Academies it is the governing body or academy trust. Admission Authorities must consult whenever they want to make changes to their policies or every seven years if there are no proposed changes. The last full consultation undertaken by the Local Authority on its admission arrangements for Community and Voluntary Controlled schools took place 7 years ago, during a period between November 2016 and January 2017, therefore a full consultation was required in 2023/2024 and was open between 4th December 2023 and 19th January 2024. As part of determining admission arrangements for Community or Voluntary Controlled schools, the Local Authority must still consult the governing bodies of those schools where it proposes either to increase or keep the same Published Admission Number (PAN). (All admission authorities must consult where they propose a decrease to the PAN.) The Local Authority consulted Community and Voluntary Controlled schools on its proposed PANs for 2025/2026 during the 2023 autumn term.
Apart from a PAN decrease in one community school (details in Appendix 7 of attached supporting document) there were no changes proposed for the 2025/2026 admission arrangements, despite a full consultation being required. Possibly as a result of ‘proposing no changes’ (but legally obliged to consult anyway) no feedback, comments or questions were received.
the Council would not meet its statutory duty as set out in the School Admissions Code 2021, and therefore be open to challenge.
Determine the proposed Pupil Admission Arrangements for 2025/2026 by 28 February 2024.
