Permission to renew current WAN on a 2 year extension.
To further extend the current offering that is in place and not incur any further cost or impact to the Council, whilst we review the future connectivity options available.
To give clarity and affirm the recommendation of extending the current offering, which aligns to the Councils needs and requirements around ICT connectivity in regards to this ongoing operational function this connection offers.
The suggestion is that we take advantage of a 2 year renewal with VMO2, which will give us zero increase to the annual spend (a reduction in fact), and zero capital investment needed, whilst allowing us the flexibility to review our next steps in regards to finding a more long term solution, and observing what the town fibre deal and the LCRDI could yield in regards to connectivity. This renewal will also see us avoiding a market increase for services of 11%. Like us, other neighbouring LAs have undertaken the same review which has led them to take a similar stance as they too ponder the options and the future. The briefing note attached explains the options available and my recommendations, which I hope are agreeable to you.
Renew with VMO2 2-year fixed contract. For all the reasons in the attached document, this option represents the best value for money currently available. Moving forward we can explore newer technologies available and ensure we have a supply that’s forward thinking, fit for purpose and inline with the strategic direction of the Councils commitment. The WAN has a diminishing role to play, as we move to cloud and reduce our assets including buildings, the only logical route to take is to extend what we already have and take the time over the next twelve months to look at it strategically. No capital investment will be required for this renewal and the revenue model is already covered by inter departmental recharges and income directly apportioned from the schools we assist on budget code LADAE. As this a required ongoing operational function, this proposal may be referred to as and when appropriate in the future.
If we do not take the option presented we could find we have no connectivity to business as usual duites.
