Direct Payments Policy
To agree Children's Services Direct Payments Policy
The purpose of this report is to request approval for the refreshed Children's Services Direct Payment Policy.
Direct Payments allow service users to receive cash payments from the Council instead of being provided with care services. This gives service users more flexibility and greater control of their individual support package. Direct payments links to the Borough Strategy Priority One - Ensure children and young people have a positive start in life. The Children with Disabilities Team have responsibility for assessing an individual's care needs and the Direct Payments. The current arrangements for Direct Payments - who is eligible, how to apply, what they can be used on and how they are reviewed - is not set out clearly in the existing Direct Payment Policy, this refreshed Direct Payments Policy provides greater clarity to young people, parents and colleagues. The Policy does not contain any changes to the exisiting process but does set out the steps in a much clearer and simpler way.
Agreeing this refreshed policy will allow the service to progress service delivery with clear criteria, guidelines and process. It will ensure workers are clear about how Direct Payments can be accessed and the review process - all of which will ensure the Council are proving the most effective support and best value.
