Fresh from its recent impressive Ofsted report, St Helens Borough Council's Adult Community Learning (ACL) service is back to offer more courses for residents in 2024.

With a range of programmes - most of which are free - designed for those looking to gain employment, become more confident, learn new skills or become more tech savvy - short courses include photography, how to use tablet devices, and training for volunteers - while maths and English courses are also available that can lead to qualifications in caring for children and becoming a teaching assistant.

Last month (December), ACL celebrated double delight after being judged 'Good' by Ofsted in an inspection of its services, with inspectors noting that "staff skilfully support learners to develop positive attitudes to learning" - and also retained its Matrix Standard accreditation, run by the Department for Education, for offering good quality information, advice and guidance for adults.

As part of its New Year offer, ACL will be hosting three 'meet the team' events where residents interested in enrolling on a course can find out more information and see for themselves why the team of dedicated teachers are held in such high regard.

Councillor Kate Groucutt, St Helens Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Economy, Skills and Business, said:

"Adult and Community Learning is a vital council service that has led to many residents over the years realising their true potential to achieve things they didn't think would be possible.

"The start of a new year is always the perfect time to take on a new challenge, learn a new skill and to discover the new you - so why not take the first step with ACL? The team is ready to guide you every step of the way."

Meet the team events will be held at United Reformed Church, King Street, St Helens, on Tuesday 9 January from 9:30am-12:00pm; St Helens Library on Wednesday 10 January from 10:00am-12:00pm, and then the Park Road Centre, WA9 1HE, on Thursday 11 January between 9:30am-12:00pm.

Course information is also available by calling 01744 676671/677328, texting 07702 959814 or emailing adultlearning@sthelens.gov.uk.
