Article date: 12 June 2025

Targeted at young people aged 18-25 who live, work, or study in the St Helens area, FLASH offers a paid mentoring and training experience designed to build confidence, develop artistic skills, and open doors into the UK's arts and creative industries.

Key benefits of the programme include:

  • A £250 bursary to support participation
  • Access to free creative workshops with experienced local professionals
  • A Level 1 Safeguarding qualification
  • One-to-one mentorship with industry artists
  • Practical experience designing and delivering creative workshops in local primary schools
  • Insight into real-world arts careers and networking opportunities

Participants will undertake training throughout September and October and will then deliver workshops in schools with their mentors through October and November.

Hosted by the Local Cultural Education Partnership (LCEP) and funded through the St Helens Borough of Culture Award, FLASH aims to empower the next generation of arts leaders while making a meaningful impact in local communities.

Councillor Sue Murphy MBE, St Helens Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Localities, Culture and Heritage, said: "We're excited to be offering this opportunity to local young people who are passionate about the arts and want to grow their skills while giving back to the community."

The deadline for applications is Tuesday 24th June, with interviews to take place on Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd July.

Participants must be willing to undergo DBS clearance, as the programme includes working with children in school settings.
