Dog day care

Do I need a licence?

You will need a licence if you are:

  • A business that provides daytime accommodation for dogs away from the dog's normal place of residence and does not keep them overnight.

If you care of other people's dogs overnight, you will need a home boarding licence (if in your own home) or a dog kennel boarding licence if you use kennels.

When do I not need a licence?

You will not need a licence if you are:

  • A business that looks after a dog within its normal place of residence (i.e. dog sitters).

How do I apply?

To deliver dog day care for other people's dogs in your property,  you will need an animal activities licence. You can read the government guidelines on conditions for dog day care.

If you wish to apply for a dog day care licence, you can download the application form below and either email it to environmentalhealth@sthelens.gov.uk or post it to St Helens Borough Council, Regulatory Services, PO Box 512, St Helens, WA10 6JX.

The fee for a dog day care licence is £305.30 (+ vets fees if necessary).
