Neighbourhood planning

The Localism Act 2011 and the Neighbourhood Planning Regulations 2012 allow for the creation of Neighbourhood Plans, which allow local communities to have more say in planning in their area.

Parish councils or other qualifying neighbourhood organisations, in line with regulations set by the government, would be responsible for preparing Neighbourhood Plans. Once a Neighbourhood Plan has been prepared for a particular area within the borough and then 'made' (i.e. adopted), it will form part of the overall Development Plan and help determine planning applications within that area.

At present, there are no neighbourhood plans in the borough, either brought into effect or in preparation.
