Here's a guide to the steps you should take as you plan your legal marriage or civil partnership ceremony in St Helens.
Choose a venue
Civil ceremonies - choosing a venue and pay the reservation booking fee
If you're planning a civil ceremony, we have a range of licensed venues in St Helens, including our Ceremony Room, Council Chamber and Assembly Hall at St Helens Town Hall. Two registrars will be present to perform and make a legal record of your ceremony. 'Celebrant' led ceremonies in venues are not legal in England and Wales. You must get married in the presence of two registrars for a civil marriage to be considered legal and this must take place in a venue licenced for marriages and civil partnerships.
Civil Partnerships involve a Civil Partnership Registrar who will take you through the signing of the civil partnership document.
Register Office ceremonies in St Helens are held on a Wednesday morning at 9.30 am. They are a statutory ceremony for the couple and two witnesses only and do not include any enhancements, music, readings, guests or parking.
Religious ceremonies in Religious Buildings
If you're planning a religious ceremony, you will need to contact your vicar, priest or religious minister to book your service. All none conformist marriages involve the giving of notice of intention to marry.
Book your ceremony with the Registration Service
Once you have chosen your venue, if the venue is in St Helens you will need to provisionally book the date and time of your ceremony.
There is a non-refundable booking fee that confirms the date, time, and place of your ceremony. This fee is not a deposit for the ceremony please see our terms and conditions.
