The so-called Beast from the East may well have caused major traffic disruptions across the UK and put a stop people's plans, but one thing it hasn't been able to suppress is Dumfries and Galloway Council's website.

The site, which is hosted by GOSS Interactive, saw a huge surge in site visitors during yesterday's (February 28^th) whiteout, and remained completely unaffected by the volumes in traffic. The increase, which was 4 times higher than usual site visitor volumes, was the result of Dumfries and Galloway citizens seeking information about traffic disruptions, school closures and other services affected by bad weather. Furthermore the 'School Closures' page was loaded over 14,000 times in just 4 hours, with a peak of 994 times between 07:30 and 07:35 whilst having no bearing on the availability of the site.

Since moving away from self-hosting, Dumfries and Galloway have seen a number of benefits in GOSS Hosting, with the increase in site traffic during the last few days being one of the biggest.
