Thank you for your interest in working at St Helens Borough Council. You will find some useful guidance in this section including how to apply and how to contact us.

How to apply 

Our online portal will allow you to search for and apply for vacancies at St Helens Borough Council.

You can also find further information on this site about our Ways of Working and the wide range of benefits we offer our employees.

There are now two ways you can submit your details via this online portal.

  1. Completing an online application form.
  2. Submitting a CV and Statement of Suitability.

If you are completing an application form

  • Before completing your application form, you should read both the Job Description and Person Specification documents included with the vacancy.
  • Carefully read and follow the instructions included on the application form.
  • Complete all areas of the application form including dates and qualifications.
  • Before submitting your form, check over the details carefully.

The Additional Information section of the application form is your opportunity to demonstrate how you meet the criteria for the role.

  • Present information in a well organised way; add headings or insert breaks between criteria.
  • To be considered for shortlisting, you should demonstrate how you meet all essential criteria listed in the Person Specification.
  • Provide relevant examples supported by evidence to demonstrate criteria.
  • Provide clear, succinct, and specific information.

If you are sending us a CV and Statement of Suitability

  • Include your contact details on your CV so that we can reach you!
  • Ensure your CV is up to date with your most recent experience and dates.
  • If the vacancy requires a specific qualification as an essential criteria, be sure to include this.
  • You will need to submit a Statement of Suitability with your CV.

A Statement of Suitability is a separate document like a cover letter, which you send with your CV.

  • Before completing your Statement of Suitability, you should read both the Job Description and Person Specification documents included with the vacancy.
  • Present information in a well organised way; add headings or insert breaks between criteria.
  • To be considered for shortlisting, you should demonstrate how you meet all essential criteria listed in the Person Specification. If there are 10 essential criteria listed, include all 10!
  • Provide relevant examples supported by evidence to demonstrate criteria.
  • Provide clear, succinct, and specific information.
